Descripción general del contenido del recurso.
Se presentan los resultados de más de veinte años de labor y experiencia en la investigación bioarqueológica con inserción efectiva en equipos de arqueología. Se consideran cambios importantes en el devenir histórico de la disciplina y el estado actual de la investigación bioarqueológica, enfatizando los aportes realizados por nuestro equipo. La idea de que el hueso no es un elemento inerte, únicamente susceptible de informar sobre variaciones morfométricas, rarezas patológicas, discutibles vinculaciones y parentescos tipológicos, tiene en efecto sus antecedentes, esporádicos y a veces solitarios, ya desde tiempos donde el polifiletismo craneológico todavía hacía sentir las secuelas de lo que terminó por conformar un obligado callejón disciplinario sin salida. Exponemos la secuencia de eventos profesionales que permitieron completar formaciones de grado y post-grado, ofrecer espacios académicos inéditos y la implementación y firma de convenios. Se sistematizan las múltiples experiencias personales y académicas adquiridas durante la labor en el campo y en gabinete, analizando críticamente perspectivas, logros y obstáculos encontrados a nivel institucional e interinstitucional. Si bien los estudios bioarqueológicos tienen una larga data en nuestro país, se incursiona brevemente en las posibilidades futuras para su prosecución. Un número creciente de jóvenes investigadores comprende y valora el enorme potencial que el campo bioarqueológico tiene para aportar al conocimiento de la dinámica de nuestras sociedades prehistóricas. Variables tanto generales como específico-coyunturales deben ser convenientemente atendidas y razonablemente resueltas, a fin de poder pensar sobre bases sólidas en un escenario de articulación, donde reafirmar y asegurar la continuidad de esta actividad disciplinaria. The results of more than twenty years of work and experience in bioarchaeological research and the effective interactions with archaeological teams are presented in this paper. Important changes in the historical development of bioarchaeology, as well as the present state of the discipline are discussed, emphasizing the main contributions of our research team to this fertile field of research. The idea that bones are not static, inert elements, only capable of informing on morphometric variation, rare pathologies, biological relationships, as well as arguable typological kinships, finds its background even in times where the craniological poliphyletism still influenced a line of research that ended up in a true disciplinary dead end. We show the sequence of professional and academic events allowing us to improve graduate and postgraduate formation, offer new academic spaces, as well as the implementation and signature of written institutional agreements. Multiple personal and academic experiences, obtained during fieldwork -as well as at the laboratory- are summarized, and the perspectives, achievements and restraints found in the institutional and interinstitutional levels are critically analyzed. The results of the main bioarchaeological sites studied so far by the authors are presented, emphasizing the effective contribution to the archaeological knowledge. Presently, an increasing number of young researchers recognize and validate the enormous potential that the bioarchaeological study has to offer to the understanding of the dynamics of past societies in Argentina. General as well as specific bio-socio-cultural variables must be properly focused and evaluated to be able to think on solid bases about a scenario of social articulation in which the reaffirmation and continuity of the discipline may be possible.
