The expression of emotions in Barbey d ’Aurevilly ’s narratives rather convey analysis related to the semiotics of the body (moreover passionate body). But the links between emotions and speech, their possible transmission from a taler to another and their effects on the multilayed narrative levels enable the readers to appreciate them from different points of view. Our thesis is that this metatextual function of emotions is the foreground of a structural paradigm special to short narratives and to their exemplary aim.
